The Memory Keepers Medical Discovery Team – Health Equity, the University of Minnesota MedicalSchool, Duluth campus, is focused on research concerning aging, cognitive health, and dementia in rural and Indigenous communities in Minnesota.
Our program of research on Community Engaged Rural Dementia and Alzheimer’s research
(CERDAR) conducts qualitative, mixed methods and epidemiological research on various aspects of dementia, caregiving, and healthy aging in rural Minnesota. CERDAR involves faculty investigators across the Duluth and Twin Cities campuses, as well as community partners. Reporting to the Director, Rural Health Initiatives, the successful candidate will be responsible for qualitative research activities, including the development and administration of in-depth interviews, recruitment of key informants and other research participants, focus group interviews, qualitative data analysis, and writing for academic publications and community audiences, primarily for the CERDAR program. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of key concepts and considerations with regards to health and illness narratives, the experience of dementia by patients and their caregivers, and rural health care delivery.
Responsibilities
Research & Data (80%)
- Act as project leader in collaboration with the Principal Investigator(s)
- Review and synthesize research literature; conduct critical reviews
- Develop research articles, manuscripts, and reports
- Conduct qualitative, key informant interviews, facilitate focus groups and group interviews
- Organize and analyze qualitative interview data
- Manage and track of online databases
- Draft interview schedules and recruitment materials
- Assist in drafting research proposals, grant applications and ethics applications
- Coordinate and schedule research meetings
- Other administrative duties as needed
Community Engagement (20%)
- Work on outreach to rural Minnesota communities, agencies and rural populations for inclusion
in the MDT research and education - Assist in recruitment of research project participants
- Coordinate and facilitate research meetings with community partner organizations
- On-going community engagement activities to support research collaborations with community
partners - Presentations and knowledge dissemination to community partner agencies
- Serve on committees as requested representing the Medical Discovery team.
Qualifications
Required qualifications
- Advanced degree with 1 or more years of research training
Preferred qualifications
- PhD in Health Science, public health, psychology, anthropology, sociology, or geography or
other health related discipline - Minimum of 3 years of experience in a research role
- Knowledge or experience of rural health/health equity issues
- Knowledge of the health of older adults and/or age-related neurological conditions
- Understanding of rural health systems, health access, and/or quality of care research
- Experience with qualitative research software, such as Nvivo, Atlas
- Experience drafting or writing grant applications, ethics protocols and research reports
- Demonstrated experience with knowledge transfer; ability to write for diverse audiences
- Peer-reviewed publication record
- Project management skills
- Experience in community outreach, community engagement and/or research partner
development
